Sphere - Lunar New Year
Sphere partnered with an Asian American artist to develop a special exosphere piece celebrating Lunar New Year.
Below are some initial concepts and one of the storyboards pitched, encapsulating a dragon’s journey from a traditional black and white mountain inkscape to a more modern setting flush with colorful, vibrant illustrations.
Final Execution
For the final execution, we partnered with an artist named Shan Jiang and ShotoPop to bring the concept the life along with simplifying elements from many illustrative motifs being the focal point to a few key beats such as having the dragon, traditional ink scape mountains and brush stroke messaging be heroes while additional elements supported in the background.
And for the second half of the video (post dragon), we wanted to play into the idea of the traditional lantern festivals that are held to commemorate loved ones and also serve nicely as a backplate for the main brush stroke messaging.
